BENALLA Giants used the windy conditions to perfection in their match against Tigers, running out 12-point winners.
The game was set alight by the Giants in the first quarter.
Kicking with the wind, the Benalla side made the most of its opportunities and booted 4.3 to the Tigers’ 0.1.
The second quarter saw the Tigers claw their way into the match, kicking five goals, while the Giants were able to kick a goal down the non-scoring end to maintain a four-point lead at halftime with the likes of Benalla’s Campbell McCoy and the Tigers’ Lachy Moore playing prominent roles.
The third quarter saw the impressive Giants keep their Tiger counterparts scoreless, while booting 4.4 themselves to put them in front with a strong 32-point lead at three quarter time.
The Wangaratta side lifted with the wind and with the end of the season and premiership hopes closing in, the Giants faced a determined and fearless Tigers side that wouldn’t say die in the final term.
Eventually, the Giants were able to kick a goal at the nonscoring end which saw them hang on to win 10.12 (72) to 9.6 (60).
Jack Kioses booted four goals for the Giants, while Lachy Moore used his pace and strength to be the Tigers best while also booting five goals.
Under 16 leading goal kicker Patrick Warner was kept to just the one goal, but found a lot of the football to be among his team’s best, while McCormick Medallist Harry Smart booted two goals and was ferocious at the contest.
