The following aims have been formulated in accordance with guidelines prescribed by the S.A.N.F.L (South Australian National Football League), the H.F.L (Hills Football League), the SACFL (South Australian Community Football League) and the Australian Sports Commission. Officials, Coaches, Players and Supporters of The Club will, through their actions, Promote, Encourage, Foster, and Advance the game of Australian Rules Football. Members of the Club should direct their efforts towards The Club's success. The Club will endeavour to ensure that there is effective managemant which will promote unity and common purpose. The Club is to provide the necessery facilities, equipment and personnel so that the sporting and social needs of its members are achieved.
PLAYER POLICY - SENIOR GROUP (Including Senior Colts)
To promote the game of Australian Rules Football to the highest level in which The Club competes. Players are to represent The Club, both on and off the field, in a manner which promotes The Club as a professional organization. Players are to set an appropriate example so as to encourage junior players to aspire to playing at the highest level within The Club or higher. Players are expected to take an active part in activites organised by The Club and support fellow players by fulfliing duties allocated to them. Players are encouraged to direct any concerns they may have to their appropriate team manager, player representative or a member of the match committee. Players found in breach of the above ideals will be asked to attend before an appropriate committee.
CONDITIONS AND RULES FOR PLAYERS OF O.V.F.C

All players are to notify coaching staff before training session if you cannot attend.

If injured you are still required at training.
|
|
Training starts at 6:30 on Tue/Thu unless notified otherwise. Therefore you need to be on the oval ready to train prior to that time.

Any player who throws strapping or mud in the change room will be fined by leadership group.
|
|
Any arrogant treatment of support staff, team mates, club officials or supporters will not be tolerated; players will be reported to the Senior Coach immediately.
|
|
On game days, players are to wear club attire to games and then back to club for presentations. Slacks and quality shoes with either Onkas shirt/jumper/jacket is required. Failure to do so will incur a fine.

|
If injured during training or a game, players are advised to notify training staff and coaching staff so rehabilitation of injury can occur immediately.
|
|
Players attendance at presentations is compulsory unless you notify your coach. Failure to do so is a fine. Presentation times are; - Away games 6:30pm - Home games 6:00pm

While at the club players are expected to act and protect the football club and its facilities as if there own.
|
|
While playing, players are expected to be giving there best for the team at all times, and any lack of discipline or abuse of team rules and ethics may result in your exclusion from the game and representation of the club.

JUNIOR FOOTBALL
Policies and Codes
The Onkaparinga Valley Football Club is committed to providing a means for young people to meet their recreational needs and develop their physical and social skills through football.
All people are welcome to participate in the life of the club and are encouraged to do so with an attitude of serving and selflessness. “The club is not there for us, but rather we are there for the club.”
Football Policy
Under 13’s (or Equivalent)
The objective of football at this level is to teach the skills required to progress to under 15’s football (or equivalent) as well as develop knowledge of the game and foster good sportsmanship regardless of the result. This age group is all about development and the coach/assistants shall use their best endeavors to ensure the players are treated equally. Whilst this grade plays for Hills Football League premiership points the OVFC policy at this age group is development for the future of the club.
Under 15’s (or Equivalent)
The objective of football at this level is to win matches and secure a premiership for the club, while at the same time develop the skill and knowledge of the game and to foster good sportsmanship regardless of the result.
If teams have reserves, coaches should allow some playing time for each player in each match. However, if a game is deemed to be in the balance and/or is critical to enable entry into the finals and/or is a finals match then the club expects that the best players available would be on the field.
The club encourages development however no player shall play in a higher age group if this means he shall be taking the place of a player who is only eligible for his age group.
Codes of Behaviour
Parents & Spectators
All adults present at club events are expected to;
- Demonstrate behaviour that enhances the image of the football club and provides a good model for young people
- Demonstrate support for all club policies and codes
- Encourage young people to participate - do not force them
- Avoid using foul or derogatory language
- Don’t ridicule players - focus on the positives
- Support coaches, umpires and club officials. Without them your child could not participate
Coaches
- Demonstrate support for all club policies and codes
- Be reasonable in your demands on players time, energy and enthusiasm
- Encourage other adults to participate in roles such as team manager, umpires etc.
- Encourage players to abide by the appropriate codes of behaviour
- Submit any issues and concerns to the junior committee
Players
- Play by the rules
- Leave the umpiring to the umpire. Never waste time and energy disputing a decision
- Show umpires respect. Remember that many are volunteers, who are simply keen to help out. Without them you would not have a game
- Control your temper. Physical or verbal abuse directed towards officials and players is not acceptable
- Respect and cooperate with your coach, other club officials and your team mates. Without them there would be no competition
- Football is a team game. Always put the team first. Work selflessly for your team mates and your club
General
- Players do not possess or consume alcohol, tobacco or other drugs
- Players are not subjected to deliberate physical violence outside of the context of fair football
- Players are not verbally or physically harassed outside of the context of fair football
- Players do not swear or use foul language
- Players are obedient to reasonable requests
- Players respect club volunteers and facilities
Players who are involved in, instigators of, or blatantly ignore any of the above will be considered to have behaved inappropriately and can expect consequences as follows. Players deliberately inflicting physical violence outside the context of fair football will be immediately excluded from training and the following match. The offender will need to sign a “Good Behaviour” contract before resuming club activities. Breech of this contract will result in exclusion from club events for the remainder of the season.
For other inappropriate behaviour, players will be verbally warned once then excluded from the present club event for at least ten minutes. If the same behaviour persists at the next club event, the player will be warned once and then excluded from that club event. The player will need to sign a “Good Behaviour” contract before resuming club activities. Breech of this contract will result in exclusion for the remainder of the season at the discretion of the Junior Committee.

Parents’ Responsibilities
- Encourage children to participate. Do not force an unwilling child
- Focus upon the child’s efforts & performance & not the overall outcome of the game
- Teach children that an honest effort is important
- Never ridicule or yell at a child for making a mistake
- Remember, children are involved in sports for their enjoyment, not yours
- If you disagree with an umpire or an official, do not question the umpires or officials judgement & honesty in public
- Support all efforts to remove verbal & physical abuse from football matches
- Recognise the value & importance of coaches, umpires & other officials
Players’ Responsibilities
- Learn the rules of the game & play by them at all times
- Never argue with an umpire or official. If you disagree, have your captain or coach approach the official at an appropriate time
- Distracting or provoking opponents or verbally abusing players & officials is not permitted
- Work hard for your team & be a good sport
- Treat all players as you would like to be treated
- Cooperate with your coach, team-mates & opponents
- Above all, enjoy yourself
Officials’ Responsibilities
- Modify rules and regulations to match the skill level of all participants
- Compliment all participants on their efforts
- Be consistent, objective & courteous
- Use common sense to ensure the “Spirit of the Game” for children is not lost through over emphasizing errors
- Ensure that your behaviour is consistent with the principles of good sporting behaviour
- Make a personal commitment to keep yourself informed of sound officiating principles & the principle of growth & development of children
Umpires’ Responsibilities
- Implement the rules of the competition being umpired
- Ensure the environment for the match is safe for all participants
- Ensure that the players safety is paramount during the game
Spectators’ Responsibilities
- Understand that children play sport for enjoyment
- Congratulate all participants’ efforts regardless of the game’s outcome
- Applaud good play by both teams
- Respect the coaches, umpires & other official’s decisions
- Condemn the use of inappropriate behaviour in any form
The Junior Committee 2006
The Junior Policy has been formulated on the basis of guidlines established by: The Hills Football League. The South Australia Football League Junior Policy. The Aussie Sports Policy. The policy sets out specific objectives and a framework for the organisation of U/17, U/14, U/12, U/10 teams. The club accepts resposibility for our junior footballers and the junior policy recognises the need to encourage participation, provide positive support, adeuate equipment and facilities for them.
